In the ever-evolving landscape of immersive technology, Samsung has recently unveiled a tantalizing glimpse of its forthcoming Android-powered XR headset, hinting at the company’s ambitions to carve out a significant presence in the burgeoning extended reality market. The development of such a device underscores the industry’s recognition of the potential for XR to facilitate a paradigm shift in the way users interact with digital information and content.

Although the South Korean tech giant Samsung didn’t have any big XR revelations at this year’s Unpacked event, they have finally shown off the near-final version of their Android XR headset, codenamed Project Moohan.

The headset appears to have a similar design to Meta’s Quest Pro, with a dual-display setup, external cameras, and a sleek rounded shape.

At this year’s Unpacked, we had hoped to see a more detailed look at Project Moohan, including the potential for controllers, which have yet to be unveiled. We also anticipated being able to confirm rumors about a device reportedly intended to rival the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses.

The device draws design and software cues from the Meta Quest and Apple Vision Pro, featuring a rigid strap, eye-tracking, pancake lenses, and an ergonomic design, which we believe is quite similar to the Quest Pro in terms of comfort. This could indicate that Samsung is aiming to compete directly with Meta’s latest high-end VR offering.

The device is expected to launch sometime this year.
